Room Parent Interest Form
Will be available starting at Open House through mid-September
Room parents (typically 3 per class) serve an important role as liaisons between teachers and the class parents. They also help organize and attend fun events throughout the year, such as winter and end-of-year parties, and project-based learning activities.
Responsibilities of a Room Parent:
-Serve as a liaison between PTA and classroom parents. You will be asked to share information with parents about various school and PTA events and encourage participation from families in your class. Room parents should take an active role in building excitement for school and family events such as spirit nights and other PTA activities amongst their student's class. These events help build community and connection plus the students have more fun when their friends are there!
-Plan and facilitate Winter class parties in coordination with other same-grade room parents to ensure consistent experiences across classes. Winter parties are likely to be held the week before school lets out for winter break.

-Plan and facilitate the End of Year grade-level recess celebration in May.
-Support the teacher as needed throughout the year with emails, sign-ups, classroom events and other needs. This can include copier support, preparing materials for class projects, coordinating supply donations, and helping with in-school events as directed by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in coordinating volunteer & donation sign-ups for field trips, extra classroom supplies, mystery reader events, etc.
- Assist the PTA in gaining sign-ups for events like teacher appreciation week.
- Attend a volunteer introduction meeting in September (or coordinate access to the materials if unable to attend).
- All room parents must submit a Henrico County Public Schools volunteer form.
Room Parents are not responsible for:
- Purchasing food or supplies for class events out of your own pocket.
- Organizing play dates and events outside of class.
- Going on every field trip and/or attending every class event. Room parents are asked to help ensure equitable access for all families to class events if participation must be limited due to space or other constraints.
A Room Parent interest form will be available at Open House. You will also need to fill out the volunteer form on the Henrico County website.
